We’re willing to offer you a unique workshop in the heart of the Argentine pampas, allowing you to discover the gaucho culture through two of its most emblematic symbols, horses and local traditional cuisine.

We’ll pick you up at your hotel in Buenos Aires and take you to the picturesque village of Carlos Keen, northwest of the capital. You’ll meet the horses there and after a two-hour horse ride on rural paths, you’ll get to the village of Villa Ruiz where you’ll experience a funny, unforgettable workshop of typical cuisine.

Program

8:30 am – Departure from your hotel in Buenos Aires.

9:30 am – Once in Carlos Keen, Marcelo, our Gaucho, will welcome you. He will help you prepare and saddle the Criollo horses. You’ll then go horseriding on country roads for two hours with local gauchos, enjoying the quietness and silence of the Pampas.

12 noon – In the village of Villa Ruiz, Carolina will welcome you to her small restaurant, la Pulperia. Caroline is an outstanding cook from the village with over 20 years of experience. She prepares top-quality products and meals.

She will offer you typical appetizers and show you the various ingredients to be cooked. You can’t miss the barbecue, which will allow you to light the fire, add wood, separate the embers, finally put the chorizo sausages and a few pieces of meat after adding salt. The whole thing will have to be cooked very slowly, as the Argentinian BBQ (Asado) requires.

After that, you’ll be taken to our workshop where you’ll discover two important things as far as “empanadas” are concerned: the “filling” on one hand, and the “dough” meant to wrap them, on the other. After explaining how to prepare the filling (osobuco), Carolina will teach you how to wrap the empanadas by closing them, expertly pinching them between thumb and forefinger (the ancestral art of “repulgue”), then how to “throw” them into the “disco de arado”, a kind of pot positioned on the woodfire.

Carolina will also teach you how to prepare the classic essential “chimichurri”, a spicy dressing made of aromatic herbs from the garden, used to season the famous “choripanes” (sausage sandwiches). Finally, you’ll help Carolina prepare fresh salads that are traditionally served with “choripanes”.

Before having lunch, you’ll also taste excellent wines from local small wineries.

1.30 pm – The “asado” will be ready! Sure you‘ll enjoy each dish in a friendly atmosphere!

To finish with, you’ll have a traditional dessert that may vary according to the day: “queso and dulce” (cheese with jam), “flan casero” (homemade flan), served with coffee or mate.

4 p.m – End of the program. Back to Buenos Aires.
