With its main building built in 1880 in Italian architectural style and over 350 hectares of land dedicated to cattle and sheep farming, the Estancia El Ombú is the ideal place to immerse yourself in the gaucho’s world of the Pampas.

Built by Lieutenant-General Pablo Riccheri at the end of the 19th century, this magnificent Estancia remains one of the most emblematic of the region. The Italian origin of Pablo Riccheri defines the architectural style of the main house. The Estancia was acquired in 1934 by Enrique Bœlcke, grandfather of current owner Eva Bœlcke.

Centennial oaks, araucarias (monkey-puzzle trees), palms, eucalyptus, casuarinas and magnolias adorn the four-hectare (ten-acre) park in the heart of the property, tempting guests to stroll about and enjoy the scent of gardenias, roses and lime trees.

The property

The Estancia offers nine spacious, modernized bedrooms (6 doubles and 3 triples), with en suite bathrooms. Large windows filter a dim light on the antique furniture and a harmonious decoration. In winter, guests enjoy the warmth of central heating in every bedroom, augmented, if desired, with the friendly glow of the gaucho’s typical wood-burning salamander.

The Estancia provides all the comfort required by the most demanding guests, together with a kind and personalized attention by professional staff, against the backdrop of the big-sky beauty and pastoral quietude of the Argentine pampas.

Whether in the cozy dining-room or under the imposing period gallery, guests are treated to enjoy traditional cuisine served with Argentinian wines. No stay will pass without at least one asado, the typical Argentinian barbecue of the world’s finest beef raised free-range on the Estancia.

The Estancia’s living room is a spacious and comfortable common room, in which guests can enjoy a round of billiards, a game of chess or hand of cards. The main house is surrounded by a covered gallery typical of the late-Colonial period, with a richly tiled floor and cascaded steps that lead into the gardens of the park.

Activities

Opting for a stay of one or more nights at the Estancia El Ombú will allow the guests to immerse themselves as much as they wish in the 350-hectare (ca 850 acre) and the life of a working Estancia, dedicated mainly to raising Hereford and Aberdeen Angus Stock.  For this, you can choose one of the 80 horses, or one of the carriages, or undertake long and healthy walks. Depending on the time of year, guests are welcome to observe and even possibly take part in the various stock-rearing activities as they happen on the ranch: driving cattle to harness, vaccination, ear-tagging, dehorning, branding, etc.

Bird lovers will be provided with binoculars and illustrative books about Argentine birds.

Other recreational activities are offered, such as a swimming pool with a solarium, table tennis, a football, soccer and volleyball courts, bicycle rides, …
