Gauchos from the whole region take advantage of the talent of the silversmiths and buy precious silver objects, which they keep all their lives and which they often pass on to their descendants.
The elaborate objects are varied, ranging from the hebilla (belt buckle) or the facón (long knife) to the cups used to drink mate. But silversmiths have also diversified their products over time, and they let their creativity run free to make more modern, practical and/or decorative objects.
The program
For 3 hours, you will discover the daily life of a silversmith, by getting to know his workshop and his tools, but also his creative and warm personality.
From the raw material, the silver shot, to the finished product, he will teach you all the stages of this ancient craft.
It’s your turn!
You’ll learn how to melt metal, cut it, chisel it and polish it, until you get the finished product: a unique piece of metal made from your own creativity.
Your mission is to make a medallion, which can be transformed into a keychain or a pendant, and that you will also be able to bring back home!
