At Estancia La Sofía, you will be welcomed by the owners, Silke and Marcos, two professional and passionate Polo players. They met during a tournament at the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona, in Spain, and in 2002 they decided to launch a project: an Estancia & Club de Polo near San Antonio de Areco.. Marcos, grand-nephew of the famous writer Ricardo Güiraldes; author of the novel Don Segundo Sombra, is a native of this colonial town.

Since then, La Sofía has become a member of the Argentine Association of Polo and a very active Polo club. La Sofia has two magnificent Polo fields and very well-trained Polo horses who ensure the best players of the region are able to practice their favorite sport. In addition, every year in November, the Polo Cup of Tradition takes place at the Estancia, as part of the Festival of Tradition in San Antonio de Areco.

The Estancia has two majestic Grand Suites, two Superior Suites and two Junior Suites decorated in the colonial style. The rooms are spacious with modern and comfortable beds covered with Egyptian cotton sheets. The roomy bathrooms are decorated with authentic 20th century mosaics. The Grand Suites and Superior Suites each have a king-size bed, desk, safe, fireplace and private access to the outdoor gallery.

The Activities

With 25 Polo horses, Polo is the main activity at the Estancia.

For those wishing to experience Polo for the first time, beginner classes are taught by Marcos, a former professional Polo player. To start with, the students learn the correct positions and how to handle the mallet on a wooden horse, then they have the chance to practice on a real horse on a Polo field.

For aficionados and experienced players, lessons are given by the owner of the Estancia, who also regularly organizes Polo practices from between 4 and 6 chukkers.

However, at La Sofia, you can also choose to go for a leisurely walk, take a horseback ride or simply enjoy the superb swimming pool and grounds of this 25 ha paradise. The view from the swimming pool overlooks the Polo field and has a bar that is open all day long.
